position.” Said Icarus, “We were getting the gang back together to hold the
town.” Kirby just stood there silent. Finally he started to speak again.“Well yes, of course. So then you’ll need me to fight on the front lines again?” the
Canadian asked.“All three of you to my understand….” Icarus started.“No.” It was Adam that interrupted. “Kate is the only one I ask to be with the rest
of us. You and Gabby have other responsibilities now and I cannot ask you to
leave them. It is possible that the bots may break into the town. Gabby may
have her hands full from wounded. You, Kirby, will have to defend your family.”“I can do that up front with the rest of you.” Kirby stated.“I cannot ask for you to put your life to such a risk as the rest of us.” Adam
told him.“It’s my town too. Gabby can handle herself if the going gets rough, but last time I
left you to fight without me we ended up putting you in that metal
sarcophagus.” Kirby told the giant sternly. That brought back very unpleasant
thoughts into Adam’s mind.“I don’t want you to face the same fate. However, as I’ve said to the others, it
is your life at risk here, your choice. I would love yer help at my side, put I
would be devastated if something happened to you or Gabby.” The titan said
solemnly. It was at this point that Kate, who left the group as Icarus brought
up the data files, had returned. She was in a fireproof suit with a mask
flipped down over her face. On her back was a pair of oxygen tanks while her
hands held a homemade device. It was composed of an old gasoline pump handle, a
propane tank, and several parts of old automobiles.“Does that relic still work? Or should I do a check on it?” Icarus asked her. Kate
merely replied by pointing the device heaven ward and squeezing the trigger. A
column of flame erupted from the nozzle going many feet into the air. She cut
the fuel before the fire spread to the motel. When she turned another weapon
was seen at her side. It was a wooden baseball bat with an assortment of nails
in it. Adam remembered that particular tool’s effectiveness from many years
ago.“So it’s settled. We shall head to the East gate. Again, Kirby I do not wish for
you to follow us, but it is your choice.” Adam said as the group got their
things together.“Let me arrange a few things, like a babysitter, and I will see you there.” Kirby declared.“So be it.” Adam replied. With that Adam, Icarus, and Kate began their walk towards
the East gate. Kirby and Gabby ran inside to make preparations.
